Kazan

Aptly translated, Kazan means ‘cooking pot’ in the language of Tatar is the 1000 year old capital of the Republic of Tatarstan. Wh ere east and west, old and new collide happily. The tops of the old churches, belfry towers and the slender needles of the minarets rise high above the city’s modern buildings. Apart from the Kremlin, a UNESCO monument, the wonders of The Peter and Paul Cathedral, the Mardjani Mosque (XVIII century) and the Azimov Mosque (XIX century) are unique and well worth seeing.

Bolgar

The smallest but also one of the most beautiful cities in the Republic of Tatarstan. Islam, the main religion of the Bulgars is reflected in the culture, architecture and unusual beauty of this ancient place. Marvel at the array of religious buildings in the town from a thirteenth century Mosque, the magnificent, elegant White Mosque, the Orthodox Church of the Assumption and the Northern Mausoleum – with its tomb of the XIV century.

Yelabuga

Located on the right bank of the Kama River in the Tatarsta region, this town is known for its 10th century castle. In the ancient city, on Kazan street, you’ll find a plethora of museums: the museum of district medicine of Vladimir Bekhterev, the Museum-Theatre "Tavern", the museum of local lore. Many of the attractions are dedicated to the artist Ivan Shishkin and the poet Marina Tsvetaeva, who are inextricably linked with the history of the city.
