Welcome to Russia! After the check-in at the hotel, you will visit the "Taltsy" open-air ethnographic museum. Unique monuments reflecting the history and culture of Russians, Buryats, Evenks and Tofalars living on this land. After that, you will visit unique Limnological Museum in Listvyanka, telling the story of Baikal waters, its flora and fauna.
Irkutsk is a beautiful Siberian city, founded in the 17th century on the banks of the Angara River. Thanks to its good location at the crossroads of trade routes that connect Europe and Asia, Irkutsk quickly became the key city in Eastern Siberia. During your city tour, you will walk along the Lower embankment to the Moscow Gate, walk down the streets of Irkutsk Merchant Suburb. Today you’ll also visit Maloye More or the Small Sea - a picturesque strait that lies between the Western shore of Baikal and Olkhon Island.
Khuzhir (from the Buryat language Khuzhar — "salt marsh") is the largest and almost the only settlement on the Olkhon island. After visiting the village, you will go for a walk along the relict grove and you will visit the largest beach on the island. Afterwards, you’ll take a walk to the Shaman rock. Shaman Rock on Cape Burkhan is one of the nine shrines of Asia and is the only one located on the territory of Russia. Then we will take the hovercraft "Biryusa" to Maly Khuzhir settlement, where we will get acquainted with Buryat customs and national cuisine in the ethnocomplex "Buryat Village".
The whole day will be dedicated to the sights of the Bolshoye More (the Big Sea). Local nature is no less impressive and fascinating – your photo hunt will be really successful!
We will take a hovercraft to one of the most beautiful bays of the Great Sea and walk along the most picturesque places in Baikal. After the photo stop we will have a lunch ashore.
There is a small, uninhabited island in Baikal in the Maloye More (the Small Sea) Strait, and it is called Ogoy. The word "Ogoy" comes from the Buryat word, which means "waterless". The length of the island is 2,9 km, and the width is 0,6 km. It is the largest island in the strait between Olkhon Island and the mainland. About a hundred herring gulls nest on the Ogoy Island.
