What are the anchorages along the route famous for?
Vyborg, a cozy medieval town bordering with Finland that surprises guests with its ancient architecture, delicious pretzels and an interesting and rich history. The Vyborg Castle, which has become a unique monument of European fortification architecture in Russia, is one of the most famous attractions in the town. Today, the castle’s building hosts a state museum featuring interactive exhibitions and permanent exhibits.
Kizhi, a unique museum-reserve located on a small island in the northern part of Lake Onega. There you will be able to see the completely wooden 22-domed Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord and feel like a resident of the Russian North when visiting the Museum of Peasant Culture.
Uglich, one of the oldest cities in Russia that became part of the Moscow Principality back in the 14th century. It has a Kremlin and the Church of Tsarevich Dmitry featuring a unique 18th century fresco depicting the tragic death of the Tsar's son. Its interesting sightseeing attractions also include the Transfiguration Cathedral and the Epiphany Monastery.
