Moscow’s North River Terminal opens after stunning reconstruction

Any cruise along the Volga river typically starts or ends in the bustling metropolis of Moscow. Whether embarking or disembarking in the Russian capital Moscow is ready to welcome you with the newly reconstructed North River Terminal in Moscow.

The North River Terminal originally opened in 1937 but in 2017 the original building was transferred to its current location in the suburbs of Moscow. A three-year project to completely reconstruct the park, terminal and port was begun.

This year, the projected was completed with stunning results.

The terminal’s main building stretches for 150 meters along the waterfront has been returned its original appearance and looks amazing. The attention to detail is something to behold as all the halls have been painstakingly restored including columns, sculptures and mosaic decorations made of majolica and stained glass.

Not only can you embark and disembark your cruise here, but you can also ‘enjoy’ the terminal itself, the magnificent Soviet architecture, the wonderful panoramic views from the observation desk or even try some Russian desserts at the historic “Volga-Volga” restaurant and much more.

Outside, all the piers have been revamped and can welcome up to 24 ships a day.

The renewed embankment area has also been renewed as a copy of a Moscow channel - a kind of spring with floodgates and illumination with lower beds as well the park area featuring dozens of sports and kids playgrounds. There is even a place for a summer theater and a winter ice rink. There are plans to open heated pools during the 2021 season.
